I’m remembering Eric Carle today with deep appreciation. My own preschooler drew inspiration more than 20 years ago from Carle’s colorful paper art, engaging books, and guest appearance with Mister Rogers. I did too, and still do.
Beyond appreciating the beauty of Carle’s art, countless children have learned to count, sequence, recognize animals, retell a story; have learned about nutrition, color, the concept of a life cycle, and so much more through Carle’s tales of a hungry caterpillar, a brown bear, a quiet cricket and many other beloved characters.
Eric Carle’s gifts to children and parents are wonderful and timeless.
I still have many of his books that I am now reading to my youngest. And I remember watching Mr. Rodgers as a kid. The good times!
